A Brief Outline of MPs History

Mission Possible was founded in 1979 by Jack and Bettie Snyder in response to God’s call to share His love with the people of Haiti. Alongside a dedicated team of Americans and Canadians who felt the same calling, they began building a ministry rooted in service and compassion. In 1989, the outreach expanded to Barahona in the Dominican Republic under the leadership of David Stitt.

The organization’s headquarters was originally established in Findlay, Ohio (1979–1983), then relocated to Fort Pierce, Florida (1983–2006). During its time in Fort Pierce, Mission Possible operated a 73-foot ocean vessel, Sonship, which supported its ministry efforts in Haiti until 1989. In 2006, the headquarters returned to Findlay, Ohio, where it continues its work today.

In 1991, following the death of Jack Snyder, Mission Possible Canada closed its doors. In 1995, the organization was re-established as an independent Canadian charity and entered into a joint ministry agreement with Mission Possible US. Together, they operate as Mission Possible International (MPI). The head office in Findlay, Ohio serves as the central hub for Mission Possible US and provides unified support for Mission Possible Canada as well.

From 1995 onward, Mission Possible Canada’s ministry in Canada was led by Heath (“Bud”) and Donna Gillam, who faithfully served as volunteer directors alongside a governing Board. Bud also served on the MPI Board and represented Mission Possible Canada in collaboration with the Mission Possible US staff and Board. With the planned retirement of Bud and Donna, the Board appointed Norm Sennema as Executive Director in June 2025 to lead the ministry into its next chapter.

For many years, the ministry of Mission Possible in Haiti has been led by Pastor Herve, while the work in Barahona, Dominican Republic has been directed by Pastor Moise. Both are Haitian nationals who serve faithfully outside of Haiti.

Through their steady and dedicated leadership, the ministries and schools in Haiti and the Dominican Republic have grown significantly. Many graduates of our schools are now serving as Christian leaders in their communities, a powerful testament to the fulfillment of our mission.

Over the past several decades—and especially in the wake of COVID-19 and ongoing political instability in Haiti—Mission Possible US and Mission Possible Canada have continued to adapt their ministry approach. Mission trips, once a vital expression of hands-on support in Haiti, are currently not possible due to political unrest and gang violence, which prevent us from safely sending teams to partner with and encourage local leaders.

In response, Mission Possible US has broadened its focus, expanding church planting and construction efforts in Moca, Dominican Republic. Mission teams are also now serving in additional countries, including Honduras, Zambia, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica, allowing the ministry to continue growing and impacting lives in new regions.

Mission Possible Canada is currently renewing and clarifying its vision for the future. We are deeply grateful for our strong base of sponsors whose faithful support continues to sustain the children and schools at the heart of our mission.

Recently, the Mission Possible Canada Board reaffirmed its commitment to serving the children and youth of Haiti—both within the country and throughout the diaspora. As we move forward, we are working to strengthen and expand our sponsorship program while also exploring new and creative ways to support the ministry in Haiti amid ongoing limitations and challenges.

One thing has remained constant since the beginning: missional discipleship continues to be at the heart of Mission Possible’s ministry through its schools. Our unwavering commitment is to equip and empower the next generation of Christ-centered leaders to serve their communities with faith, integrity, and purpose.
