Update from Pinson School

Perseverance in Pinson: A Story of Dedication

At Pinson School, the story of the past year is defined by one word: Commitment. Despite the broader challenges facing Haiti, the school remains a functional, lively center for learning where the gates are open and the classrooms are filled with potential.

Steady Progress Amidst the Storm

Overall, Pinson School is functioning well. Students are showing up ready to learn, and the teaching staff has remained remarkably steadfast. In an environment where many things are uncertain, Pinson provides a reliable routine that both children and parents have come to depend on.

The Hurdle: A Need for More Hands

While the spirit at Pinson is strong, the school is facing a significant logistical challenge. We are currently experiencing a lack of human resources. There simply aren’t enough teachers to meet the diverse and growing needs of our student body. This puts a heavy burden on our current staff, who are working double-time to ensure no child falls behind. Finding and funding additional qualified educators is our top priority to ensure every student gets the individual attention they deserve.

Navigating National Insecurity

The influence of gang activity across the country creates a ripple effect that reaches even our mountain communities. The primary impact on Pinson is felt through transportation and anxiety. Insecurity on the roads makes it harder for supplies to arrive and for families to travel. Naturally, the climate of uncertainty causes significant stress for parents, which occasionally affects student attendance when the situation “downhill” feels too risky.

Reasons to Celebrate: Academic Success

Despite the empty seats on the faculty roster and the stress of the times, the news from the classroom is remains positive. The perseverance of our students is paying off in a major way, The local community hasn’t backed down; they continue to protect and support the school, viewing it as their greatest asset for a better future. Academic performance remains high, with students proving that they can excel even under pressure.
