This past week (from Friday, Feb 13-17) the churches in Catienne and Saint Marc sent an evangelistic team of 150 people into a rural mountain community of Goayavier to witness to Jesus during the week of Carnival. They joined with a local Baptist church to meet with people and to host an evangelistic service. In that time there were 81 people who responded to the invitation to accept Jesus as Saviour and Lord.

This is a significant moment for that community, and for each person who accepted Jesus. But now the work begins. many people have been raised with some aspect of Voodoo beliefs and practices. To accept Jesus is just the first step. There will need to be follow up and discipleship by the church in that community as people let go of unhealthy beliefs and practices – including burning objects associated with Voodoo beliefs. They will also need spiritual support and strength to stand firm in their new faith as they will face challenges and pressures to turn away.

PRAYER FOCUS: Pray for these new believers, and the believers that support disciple them, that the Spirit of Jesus would establish them in the relationship with God and Jesus.

“Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7).
